Re: 305 vs 350

The 350 is better on everything while getting about the same milage. Way easier to find parts if you wanna build it a little too.

Re: 305 vs 350

I went from a 305 to 383 what a difference!! I should have done it long ago!! Gas mileage is pretty close to the same but the HP's are double and so is the torque!! Don't even think about it JUST DO IT! You won't regret it. Good Luck!

Re: 305 vs 350

You will definately love a 350 or 383. The stock 87 305 only had 170 hp (lame!), my crap ranger has 145hp. If you want to stay stock, take the time to check out the hp on different years. even the stock 87 454 only had 240hp. If you are as crazy as me, you can get a brand new 350HO with 350hp from your friendly Chevy dealer for about $2,500 but the extras will get you $$ and you can't live where they test emissions. A good stock 350 should be easy on the wallet.
OR JUST GO FRECKIN NUTS AND MAKE IT SCREAM!!!!

Here is my 350 just before completion.....

Re: 305 vs 350

When I swapped my 305 for a 350, not only did the power improve dramatically, I got about 7-8 mpg better! Mine's the GM 350hp model, and it's by far the best $2465.83 I've ever spent.

Re: 305 vs 350

you should have no doubts in your mind about this swap. to make it cheap, just throw in a stock 350, then build/modify as funds permit.

Re: 305 vs 350

i went from the 305 to 350. i got it new from gm for $1500 but i had to reuse the intake and exhaust and accesories. for the power you have to do the conversion. i lost a few mpg i could max out the 305 at about 18mpg the 350 i get a best of 15mpg but the power difference is well worth it. also when you do the swap change the clutch(manual) the water pump throw a good set of headers on and rebuild the carb. youll appreciate that later on.
